Treatment of outside angles

Cycle: Finish Contour, Contouring, Chamfering

Definition

This option is used to control the finish of outside angles by adding:

  • Radii (fillets) on a profile, 2D or 3D (solid)

  • Chamfers to break the corner

  • Loops to maintain the sharp quality of the edge.

Settings

  • Radii

  • Chamfers

The toolpath can programmed with either radii or chamfers on the part corners. The purpose is to avoid sharp edges by having smooth angles.

By applying this option, there is no need to modify the geometry itself. It would be a longer job to modify all the corners or a selection of corners. And to not cut the angles, simply need to check the button to No and recalculate the toolpath.

  • Loops

Here, the purpose is opposite: the straight angles are required to be as accurate as possible. For this, a toolpath can be defined that generates loops that go out the corner and go in again, to protect the angle edge.

This option is only possible for center toolpath. In strategy dialog, the settings must be:

  • Toolpath set to Left or Right and

  • Offset set to Center.

If those settings are not respected, the option is not greyed out in the dialog, however loops are not applied in the toolpath and a warning message comes out.

Common Options:

Radius/length: insert the value of arc for the radii and the loops or the length value for the chamfer.

Maxi Angle: enter the value of maximum angle on the part to break the corner. This way, the cut to some corners can be applied according to their size, for instance:

  • enter 90° and all the obtuse angle corners (>90°) will be avoided.

  • enter 60° and the cut to all the acute angle below 60° will be applied.
