Drilling during reaming

Cycle: Roughing

Definition

You can program a drilling toolpath before each pass of inside roughing. This option enables to avoid the operation of drilling and the change of tool.

Of course, you must use a special tool which enables to make both drilling and reaming operations (example: EcoCut tools from manufacturer Ceratizit).

To apply this new strategy, there is a combination of rules to respect in the tool page and cycle page, if you do not, the parameter remains unavailable:

  • the parameter Drilling Diameter must be filled in the boring cutter page,

  • the angle KAPR of the cutting edge must be set to 90°,

  • the cycle type in the toolpath must be defined in the mode 'Face',

  • Set the option ‘Drilling during reaming’ as 'Yes'.

  • the start vector should be set vertically (as shown)

The geometry has to be selected upwarding, unless the drilling cannot be done.

The generated toolpath is the following:

1: drilling 1st pass,

2 and 3: 1st roughing pass,

Retract,

4: drilling 2nd pass

5 and 6: 2nd roughing pass, etc.
