The EDM-Expert interface offers a user-friendly platform giving access to EDM data for AgieCharmilles products(specifying machining parameters and selecting target machine options), enabling the creation of fully executable jobs. It acts as a mediator between various EDM-Expert modules, ensuring compatibility based on machine model and specific interfaces. The interface then seamlessly transfers the necessary data to GO2cam.
To maintain system flexibility and accommodate future machine model updates or EDM data changes, the interface incorporates an isolation mechanism. This prevents the need for direct modifications to GO2cam, ensuring a robust and adaptable integration.
Configuration
Define the machine MCE with the appropriate post processor.
In the configuration settings for the machine, choose EdmExpert from the drop-down list under Strategies
In the first field, choose the directory where EDMExpert is installed.
In the second field, select the machine name. The family and machine name is separated by a semicolon and is given in the format (e.g., "cut;cut400").
Click on ok to validate the configuration and save the machine.

Process
When a strategy is applied, a connection is made to the EDMExpert database, and a sequence selection window is opened.
Based on the machine, the machinable materials, usable wires and their diameters are retrieved.
Using dropdown menus, select the material and wire. Their respective codes are displayed followed by the name.
The height of the material and wire diameter can also be specified.
If an incorrect wire diameter (or 0) is entered, a list of available diameters is displayed.
Depending on the selected criteria, a list of valid sequences is shown in the intermediate technology field. For some machines, all criteria must be provided for the list to be displayed.
For "cut" family machines, a condition is required to display a sequence list.
Right-click in the field to select, modify or create a new sequence.
Creation of a new sequence list opens an EDMExpert window to create a sequence, initialized with the current criteria. Sort or select the sequence, define the parameters if required and generate the steps. Define the sequence name in the field provided and validate to save it.
When a sequence is selected, an SEQ file name is requested. An SEQ file is generated, which is then read by the post-processor and integrated into the program. The name is shown in the intermediate technology list and stored in each cycle's tech comments. The final list displays the passes and the regimes used.
Once a sequence is selected or created, it can be modified by right-clicking on its name in the intermediate list. An EDMExpert window opens, allowing the sequence values to be changed.
In the final list, select the required pass and confirm to move on to the strategy adjustment window.
Upon confirmation, if the machine belongs to the Millennium family, a TEC file is created from the SEQ file.
Validate the strategy, define the profile and calculate. The machining is done as per the SEQ.
