Stock Calculation for 3X Milling

Let’s describe what we call the stock in GO2cam. In reality, in 3X milling, there are 2 types of stocks:

  1. the grey displayed stock:

it is the 3D material shown on the screen. In Milling, Turning and Wire edm, it is automatically calculated according to the operations programmed.

In 3X Milling it is set OFF by default, because its calculation can be very long. You can change this behaviour with the option ‘Stock calculation of the complex cycles’ in Tools>Options>Milling.

You can also set the calculation ON and OFF with the commands in the Machining Tree, by right-click in ‘Stock’ line or in the ‘Operations’.

If Stock line is ON, you can choose for each single operation to calculate the stock or not. If it is OFF, the grey stock is not calculated at all.

Stock Compacting: the stock is compacted, which means that only the last stock is kept when the part is saved, We save 25% of part size.

Tools>Options>Milling

  1. The stock used by Rough/rework operation:

This stock is calculated internally of the rough/rework algorithm to be able to manage reworking. Thanks to this stock shape, we can apply the same operation with the same settings but different tools and machine only remaining material. In the strategy, the option ‘Stock calculation’ deals with this stock.

This stock calculation is a 3D management, in multiple planes, from all the previous toolpaths (2D, holes etc.), for any shape of tool.

This calculation is not directly visible on the screen. You can simulate to see the result of this calculation but the best for 3 axis operations is to use the Comparison command.

The comparison is based on the same engine than the simulation but can be much more precise by choosing tolerances of display and precision. It shows remaining material and also overcuts by a customizable system of colors.

This command is available in NC File menu.
