Thread Whirling

Thread whirling is similar to a thread milling process, except that inserts are mounted on the inside of a cutting ring.

The ring turns around the part to machine the thread in one pass.

Thread whirling is a productive method and often used for special thread forms that need to be produced quickly and at high tolerances. Typical components are medical bone screws, implants, feed screws, worm gears, and other micro components.

Key Points

  • Creation of thread with one pass with a specific tool

  • Useful for long parts,

  • No need to back the part in the guide bush.

The part and the tool have rotation speed:

In the technology tab, the Spindle speed and Rotation Speed of Tool must be synchronized and these rules are given by the tool provider.
