Introduction
Use the Facing selection method when preparing a facing operation on a solid model. This method uses the existing stock to define the area to face. Check that the stock is correctly defined before selecting the geometry.
Methodology
-
Check the stock dimensions and position relative to the solid.
-
Start geometry selection for the facing operation.
-
Left-click to open the selection modes, then choose Facing, then follow the selection prompts and click the upper face .
-
Check the generated facing area against the stock. Confirm that it covers the material to remove.
-
Check and adjust the top and bottom altitudes to match the stock surface and the required machining level.
-
Validate the geometry, set the facing cycle parameters and calculate the toolpath.
Facing or Silhouette?
Facing selection uses the existing stock for the facing area. Silhouette calculates the material to preserve above a specified altitude and uses the stock as the surrounding pocket. Refer to Silhouette when the operation requires that calculation, for example when preserving raised areas during roughing.
