Introduction
Use Lateral Face to select machining geometry from a side face of a solid model. Choose this method when the wall to machine is the relevant selection reference, rather than a flat pocket bottom.
Methodology
-
Start geometry selection for the required milling operation.
-
Open the selection modes, then choose Lateral Face.
-
Select the lateral face corresponding to the wall to machine.
-
Check the resulting geometry before validating: confirm the intended wall or contour is selected and that no unwanted areas are included.
-
Check the top and bottom altitudes in the dialog area. Adjust them to match the operation.
Choosing another method
Use Bottom Face when selecting a flat pocket bottom and recognizing its islands. Use Profile when defining a closed pocket from solid edges without a selectable flat bottom.
See Selection Commands and Dialog area for selection controls and Solid Geometry Selection for the other methods.
