Definition

This option defines the behaviour of the cycle in case of multiple pockets and multiple subpockets.

3 options are available, each of them has its own use and interest:

  • Organization by pockets

  • Organization by areas

  • Organization by Z levels

Organization by pockets

The pockets selected are machined one after another; if a pocket is divided by an island, the 2 sides are considered as 2 pockets and machined separately.

Consequently, this option is very good in case of multi-selection, if the pockets to machine are not divided into many subpockets.

It minimizes the number of rapid paths between pockets.

The example above is perfectly adapted to this option.

Organization by pockets would not be much adapted to the next example: here, the part has 2 pockets, one with an island and the other is divided in 2 because the tool can not machine the part at one time.

In the video, take a look at the path and note how the pockets are machined with too many rapid paths between the areas.

Organization by areas

Now, on the same part, take a look very carefully at the next video. The toolpath programmed is much more optimized thanks to the organization by areas.

The pocket with an island is machined completely until the altitude of the island, then it is considered as 2 pockets. The other pocket is machined as 2 pockets and it minimizes the number of rapid paths inside one pocket.

This option is also very useful in reworking cycles where each rest material area is machine one by one.

  Organization by Z levels

This option is very different since the toolpath is programmed level by level. There are much more rapid moves but the great interest is to maintain the rigidity of the whole part. This is very important in case of thin walls like in the example shown above.
